The short answer: before your baby arrives — ideally in your second trimester.

The ideal time to photograph your newborn is within the first 14 days after birth.


During this stage:

  • Babies are sleepier and more settled
  • They naturally curl into those soft, newborn poses
  • Sessions tend to be calmer and more relaxed for everyone

This is when we capture those tiny details — the fingers, toes, soft expressions — before they begin to stretch out and become more alert.


That said, if your baby arrives early, late, or needs extra time, that’s completely okay. I always allow flexibility around due dates so we can always adjust once your baby is here.

What If My Baby Arrives Early or Late?


Babies arrive on their own timeline and that’s completely expected. When you book a newborn session with a Sydney newborn photographer, your due date is used as a guide only. Once your baby arrives, we simply adjust the session date to suit you and your baby.

Yes — while the first two weeks are ideal, beautiful newborn photos can still be captured beyond that window. Older newborn sessions focus more on natural moments, connection, and family interaction rather than sleepy poses.
