Sydney Newborn Photographer

There’s something incredibly special about those first few weeks at home with your baby. Everything is new, a little bit dreamy, and—let’s be real—completely life-changing. If you’ve been thinking about booking in a studio newborn photography session in Sydney, here’s the lowdown on the best timing (and a little secret to help things run smoothly).

So, when’s the best time to book your newborn session?

As a Sydney newborn photographer, I recommend booking your session for the first 1–3 weeks after your baby arrives. This is the sweet spot for those sleepy, curly poses you’ll often see in my portfolio—when your baby is still very much in that delicious newborn haze.

That said, if life has felt a little overwhelming (because newborns don’t come with a schedule!), don’t stress. I photograph babies up to 6 weeks old in my light-filled studio in Norwest, Sydney. Sessions after the 3-week mark tend to include more stretches, eye contact, and awake moments—which can be just as beautiful. It all depends on the kind of memories you want to capture.

Want to know the secret to a sleepy newborn session?

Let me share a little behind-the-scenes tip I give all my clients: the key to a dreamy, sleepy baby during your newborn shoot is a warm bath before the session. Yep—a relaxing bath about 1 to 1.5 hours beforehand works wonders to settle and soothe your baby. Follow that with some awake time (around 1.5 to 2.5 hours) of gentle play or cuddles to keep them alert.

And remember, we’ll always go with the flow. If your little one takes their time settling or prefers to stay awake for a while, that’s completely okay. I’ve photographed hundreds of Sydney newborns, and every baby is beautifully different. Once you arrive, we’ll start with a feed to help your little one drift off, and from there, I’ll gently guide the session so everything feels calm, relaxed, and natural.

And if bub isn’t sleepy right away? That’s okay too. Every baby is different, and we’ll follow their lead every step of the way.

When should you book?

The best time to book your studio newborn photography session in Sydney is while you’re still pregnant—ideally in your second or early third trimester. We’ll reserve your due date in my calendar, and once baby arrives, we’ll lock in the session date.

My studio is designed specifically with newborns (and tired parents) in mind—filled with soft light, calming neutral tones, and everything you need to feel comfortable and at home. You don’t need to bring a thing—just your baby, their essentials, and yourselves.

These early days are fleeting, but the images we create together will last a lifetime.

If you’re looking for a relaxed and natural newborn photographer in Sydney, I’d love to welcome you into the studio soon.
